MOTHER EARTH

Simone Menezes was invited to create a symphonic concert around the theme of nature for the Universal Expo in Osaka, in collaboration with the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra and with the support of Cartier.

 

Bringing together the music of Villa-Lobos and Debussy, Simone envisioned a journey through the elements and invited renowned pianist and composer Fazıl Say to contribute a new piano concerto, written especially for the occasion. ​

 

The program takes us on a sonic journey through nature’s vast wonders.

We begin with Fazil Say’s newly commissioned Piano Concerto, inspired by rivers, water, and forests.

We then move to the sea with Debussy’s La Mer, a work profoundly influenced by Japanese art, particularly Hokusai’s iconic print The Great Wave of Kanagawa, capturing the fluidity and mystery of the ocean.

Finally, we arrive in the heart of the RainForest with Villa-Lobos’s The Amazon Forest – Suite II, a vibrant 20 minutes tribute to the grandeur and vitality of the rainforest.

 

This concert invites us to reflect on our connection with nature and with one another.​​​​
